Ground preparation is a crucial step when creating a stable and long-lasting area, especially in locations prone to instability and wetness. In the case of the Lilliput, Poole, Dorset location, where the customer's rear garden is being prepared for a patio, the following steps were taken to ensure a solid foundation:
Leveling the Sub-Soil
The first step involved leveling the sub-soil. This process helps in creating a uniform surface and ensures better stability for the layers that follow.
Stabilising the Ground with Cement Dust
Cement dust was used to stabilize the ground. This helps in improving the strength and durability of the foundation, especially in areas where the soil is prone to shifting or being too wet.
Installing a Weed Membrane
A weed membrane was laid down. This serves the purpose of preventing weed growth, which can not only be unsightly but can also cause damage to the patio over time.
Moving, Leveling, and Compacting Type 1 Stone
Thirty tons of type 1 stone were moved, leveled, and compacted in layers. Type 1 stone is a well-graded granular material often used as a sub-base for patios. By compacting it in layers, a solid and sturdy base is created to support the patio structure.
Through these meticulous steps, the groundwork has been properly prepared to provide a strong and stable foundation for the patio in the customer's rear garden in Lilliput. This detailed process ensures that the patio will not only look great but will also withstand the test of time and the environment.
